Shandia one night
On this two days/one night experience in a community based lodge in the upper amazon region, you will harvest the most important crop of the people and prepare with them a traditional beverage, that is still very important: Chicha. Crossing little rivers and how to protect you from the spirits of the forest are part of the adventure. At night you will enjoy traditional food and later the sound of the jungle. The next day you will experience the power of the jungle water in some jungle river lagoons.
The community you will be visiting
The Kichwa community of Shandia is located just 25 minutes from the city of Tena, surrounded by nature and next to two beautiful rivers, Rio Jatun Yaku and Rio Tálag. Within the buffer zone of the Llanganates National Park, Shandia is ideally situated for outdoor activities and adventure sports such as rafting and ziplining. Arrival in Shandia, where the Kichwa community will welcome us with a delicious typical natural drink, accommodation in the lodge and lunch. Then a short walk will take us to an ancestral farm of the community, to learn about the different products that are grown in the area, especially the fine aroma cocoa, then we will visit a typical house of the Kichwa community, here the family will teach us how to make chicha. Back to the lodge, we will participate in the handmade chocolate making, starting with the roasting, grinding and preparation of chocolate, we can taste the chocolate made by our hands, then we will have dinner and no more programs.

We set off from Shandia further into the jungle to reach a jungle bath. First we have to cross the big Amazon tributary called Jatunyacu. Luckily there is a simple cable car to get to the other side where the river pools are waiting for us. In these beautiful natural lagoons we enjoy the refreshing, clear water and the dense Amazon rainforest around us. When your bathing desire is satisfied, we return to Shandia Lodge where it is time to pack.
